Dating sites for interesting people
from Brooklyn, NY for suggesting this week’s topic: Online dating, once a fringe and stigmatized activity, is now over a billion industry.Over 40 million Americans have given online dating a try, and over a of the American couples married between 20 met online.“Fun-Loving, Laid-Back Woman With A Bit Of A Nerdy Side Joins Online Dating Service.” That’s a hilarious headline The Onion ran yesterday, poking fun at how willing we all are now to flaunt our quirks in the hopes of it making us appear “special” enough to fall in love with.
The way the current trend is heading, what will dating be like in 2030, and will that be a better or worse time to be on the dating market than 1995? I think the term “online dating” is part of the problem and makes people who don’t know much about it think it refers to people forming entire relationships online and only meeting in person much later.
Simply considered as online meeting people, it makes a ton of sense.
As the site explains: It's easy to discover like-minded people nearby, just add your interests to create a profile full of your loves and likes.
Add your favourite films, music, books, sport and more and we'll show you people nearby with matching and similar interests.
The first prominent online dating site was Match.com, which launched in 1995.
e Harmony started in 2000, Ok Cupid in 2004, and more recently, a wave of mobile people-swiping apps, like Tinder and Hinge, have become wildly popular.“I like biking and hanging out with my friends, but am just as fond of curling up with a good book or nerding out to a good Joss Whedon show,” read the woman’s profile, which includes photos captioned with the phrases “reigning karaoke champ” and “me and Ashley at Hogwarts in Orlando!”” I wonder if the dating website this fictitious woman joined is loveflutter.com, a site for “interesting people,” replete with a quiz that will let you know just how QI, or Quirky-Interesting you are.Whenever there's a new dating site making waves, I clearly have to test it out for both professional and personal reasons. Like for instance, I think I'm about 12 years too old to truly enjoy Tinder, and while I do love travel, I do not enjoy sexism so Miss Travel wasn't a good fit. However, one might think new dating site Love would be a good fit for me.If they add a version of their test that doesn't include attending "music gigs" or playing sports as indications of quirkiness, I might have a shot. But I didn't want to start any potential relationships on a lie!Tags: Adult Dating, affair dating, sex dating
